I've done DIY assembly numerous times in the past, and my experience had always been terrible. Missing parts, inadequate instruction, half-assed design...
Not with this item.
Delivery was fast, considering it came from Canada. Packaging was a bit roughed-up, but the contents remained intact. No missing parts, very clear and good instructions of 25 steps. It took me about 3.5 hours (I was not in a hurry and read the instruction very carefully...I am also not that much of a handy-man). At some point I called customer support to report a part I mistakenly thought was missing. It was a Saturday, but my call was answered immediately, and the order for a new part placed by a courteous operator (free of charge, of course). I then called back and cancelled the order because I found the part.
The unit is nice-looking, just as the picture, and all the parts (including the cabinets) fit together well.
Overall, given the functionality and appearance I think the item presents a very good value for the price paid.

Not too sure how anyone had a problem putting it together. I'm a 21year old female, it took me a little over an hour. The quality of this piece is great, really heavy wood and very sturdy! I'm very please with my purchase and would definitely recommend!!!

When I initially received the stand, the top, larger shelf had a scratch 1/2 of the width of the piece and it wasn't something that I could touch up nor live with. I called Amazon, got a partial credit and then called South Shore who eventually shipped out a replacement piece free of charge. It took about 10 days to get it, but in the end I got a great deal on the unit. The directions aren't too difficult to understand and one person can assemble this for the most part (although having an extra hand in a couple steps helps). I did not install the feet, as they are plastic and cheep-looking, but the stand looks great without them and sits on carpet. I have a 46" flatscreen and it looks fine on the upper shelp. I was looking for a relatively inexpensive stand that was a little more compact in a dark espresso/chocolate finish. This is a good buy for the money and the frosted glass and nickel accents add a little class to the unit.
