Money Making and the Family Guy

This article is for the guys and perhaps those who want to understand them a little better. Within almost every guy is a natural inclination to provide for his family. There are exceptions of course, but for the most part the guy still has the desire to provide well for his family. This typical 'Guy' will assume the pressures of the monthly bills and the pressures of keeping his family healthy and safe.

As 'Guy' ages he begins to think of retirement and or college education for his children. He does what he can, but most often never really feels as if he's done enough. The pressure mounts.

His family will generally tell you that he is a great provider, but 'Guy' doesn't really believe this to be true. He will typically believe that if he were a great provider he would be able to meet the future needs of his family as well as the current ones. From his vantage point he may consider himself a failure.

Sometimes without realizing it he shifts into overdrive and takes on longer hours to compensate.

It's at this juncture that many families become concerned about 'Guy' because they automatically assume he doesn't want to be around the family and that accounts for the overtime and lack of physical presence within the family.

In many cases 'Guy' does not view what he is doing as abandonment he is simply trying his best to shoulder his own perception of the financial pressures he encounters.

This is one of the reasons I like to talk about moneymaking ideas from the perceptive of a family affair. 'Guy" is motivated to meet present and future financial commitments and is often the stabilizing force in financial ideas that involve the entire family.

A family run moneymaking idea can allow the man to do something meaningful to contribute to the family needs while giving his family the opportunity to be engaged with their 'Guy'.

Increasingly women are feeling a similar pressure especially if they are single parents. However, what needs to be known is that the primary motivator for overworking has to do with the inborn desire to make life better for others.

'Guy' will typically consider himself a successful parent and husband if he can just bring in a little more cash while the wife may not harbor those same feelings. She may consider 'Guy' to be successful if he's around to play with the kids or eat a meal with the family.

I think if husbands and wives understood what motivates the other to do the things they do they would find more common ground. The role of a family money making idea can be instrumental in allowing the man to become an improved provider while allowing the wife to feel that her 'Guy' is engaged in family life a bit more.

I'm certain it is an overstatement, but I believe a lot of family strife could be avoided if a husband and wife were to move forward with a wealth enhancement idea together with a better understanding of why each responds the way they do.

Kitchen Remodeling - Some Ideas on Choosing Kitchen Flooring

If you are searching for kitchen remodeling ideas, do not get carried away by the beautiful pictures you see in home design magazines. Your considerations in choosing materials, especially for your kitchen floor, should not be limited to how they look. It is best to select a few of what you like and test them first. For this you may want to visit a home center or retailer of flooring materials.

Go with a Comfortable Kitchen Flooring Material

Choose a kitchen flooring material that is comfortable underfoot since you may be standing for long periods preparing meals or cleaning up. During your visit to the store, lay on the floor a few samples of flooring material you like. Then, stand on them without your shoes to check how hard the floor surface feels under your feet and if it is comfortable enough for you.

Next, test the flooring material for noise. With your shoes on, take a few steps and listen to the sound you make. Modern kitchens follow an open design and are usually attached to the family room. The noise from shoes can bother the other members who are conversing or watching television.

Remember to check for wear ability also since the kitchen is the most used portion of the house. Select a floor that is durable and can withstand the wear and tear from high traffic, food spills, and abuses from children and pets. Of course, get the floor that is easy to maintain and clean.

Options for Kitchen Flooring

While there are many options for kitchen flooring, the more popular choices are wood, laminate, ceramic tiles, vinyl tiles and linoleum. Wood makes beautiful kitchen flooring and harmonizes with most styles. Wood is warm, won't strain your legs much and it muffles the noise of shoes. Wood is generally durable although how long it will last depends on the type of wood and finishing used. Many are reluctant to use wood in the kitchen because it scratches easily. If it happens, you can always resort to sanding and refinishing.

An alternative to wood is laminate. Because of the high pressure used in its manufacturing process, laminate is very durable. It is also easy to install and maintain. Laminate floors don't fade and are stain resistant. It may look like real hard wood but laminate lacks the charm and warmth of natural wood. The clicking of heels tends to be very audible with laminate floors.

A great choice if you are after a decorative kitchen flooring is ceramic tiles. There is such a wide range of sizes, colors and patterns you can be sure to find the perfect match to your kitchen design. All you will need is a damp mop to clean the tiles but you will need to pay special attention to the filling in-between the tiles. A disadvantage to ceramic tiles is their hardness. You may need to step on a rug if you have to stand for long and avoid dropping dishes. Moreover, ceramic tiles are cold and amplify the sound made by shoes.

If cost is a factor, you may want to check out vinyl sheets or tiles. They come in a variety of colors and pattern, and are easy to install. They are easy to clean and provide cushion to the feet. However, vinyl is susceptible to curling and peeling on the edges.

Linoleum flooring is regaining its popularity primarily because it is environmentally friendly. Not to be confused with the PVC type, the natural linoleum is made from solidified linseed oil combined with cork dust or wood flour, tree resins, ground limestone and natural pigments.

While there are other options for natural kitchen flooring, bear in mind that there are always upsides and downsides to whatever kind of kitchen flooring you choose. Select which flooring you like most and can live with. In time, your choice of floor will be reflective of your personal taste and suitable to your daily activities.

Minor Changes Or Repairs That Could Increase Home Value

Do you want to sell your homes? Do you want to sell it at a price much higher than you expected? Then you should learn different strategies that could increase your home value.

Home values are not only increased by expensive additions. You do not need to add a new patio or any forms of living space into your home to get a higher resale price; as simple as doing minor changes could benefit you most as a seller.

Home Gain has conducted a survey to help identify various activities that result to greater home value and for homeowners to have greater returns on investment. In this survey, various real estate agents have participated to express their opinion on the different types of home improvement activities. Among these items mentioned, the great return can be obtained from Clean and de-cluttering.

However, this article will focus on the repairs and minor changes. To know more about them, read more below:

Plumbing repairs

From the Home Gain survey, this activity garnered 88% of the real estate agents' recommendation. The return on investment would be equivalent to 327% for a cost of as much as $400. In monetary terms, a house sale could be increase by 1000 to 1500 dollars.

The goal of plumbing repairs is to make sure that it is functional whether it is in the bathroom, kitchen or even form the garden. Every faucet should work without problems, as well as the toilets. If you have overflowing septic tanks, make sure you have this checked and de-clogged before selling.

Electrical Repairs

Home Gain Survey shows that making sure you electrical system works as expected could increase house price by as much as $1500. This is what 89 percent of the real estate agents think that is why they are recommending such activity. So even if you shell out a max of $400 for the repairs or update it will definitely be worth it.

When you repair your electrical system, you do not have to limit your focus on the circuits, the sockets or even the wires. You also need to make sure that the devices that use electricity for functionality will be able to function as expected.

Flooring Repair

The floor is also the widest part of the house just like your walls. That is why it is very important to fix any obvious problem or even update it, to further enhance the appearance of the house. A 91% of real estate agents, who participated in the Home Gain survey, think that this needs to be done as it can generate an ROI of 250%. For a 500 to 700 worth of repair, you can increase price house in as much as $2,000 dollars.

So the next time you see a broken tile or a crater on your hardwood flooring, try to patch it or replace it. If your floor sounds creaky, that should be eliminated the soonest.

Kitchen or Bathroom Updates

Updating could also mean ensuring the functionality of these areas of the house. Buyers would normally check a kitchen and bathroom. Although the kitchen update had the lowest percentage of recommendation (which is 69%) and bathroom update being the second to the lowest (at 70%), these updates could still increase your home value. There can be as much as $3,000 home price increase for the kitchen and $1500 for the bathroom for a cost of $1500 max and $1,000 max respectively.

Part of the fixes would be the countertops, sink and tubs. You have the choice to resurface them if there are damaged areas. Appliances are also major items. Therefore, it is important to check this and other fixtures for functionality.

10 Secrets to Get a $30,000 Kitchen For Under $3,000

You see it all the time on TV. People spend outrageous amounts of money to get new kitchens. You can get a new kitchen for a lot less money than your TV would lead you to believe.

I once owned a lovely Cape Cod house with an 80's style melamine and oak strip kitchen. When we decided to sell to start a new business, potential buyers all hated that kitchen. We didn't get a single offer. We had no choice but to take the house off the market and fix the kitchen. If you think you might need to resell an attractive kitchen is important. But more importantly it's nice for any homeowner to have a kitchen they love.

We asked the pros what it would cost to reface our kitchen. They estimated it would cost $20,000 to $30,000. And hiring "pros is not without risk. They may or may not do an adequate job. We did our first DIY attempts because of bad experiences with "experts" who didn't deliver.

So we decided to do it ourselves...again.

We did it for $1,200.

Yes we saved at least $18,800 bucks, maybe more.

You can do it, too. Here's how.

Do it one step at a time.

1. Your first step involves making decisions about the layout of your kitchen. If it is reasonably functional keep the sinks and appliances in their current positions. We did not move anything in our kitchen and saved lots of money.

2. Next keep your cabinet boxes if possible. This is a "green" issue as well as a price issue. Cabinets cost a lot of money and should never end up in a landfill. If you do not plan to reuse your cabinets at least donate them to a local charity like Habitat for Humanity or Good Will.

3. Check out home stores for good buys in cabinetry or rejects from manufacturers and cabinetmakers.

4. You can keep the boxes and just get new doors for a new look without some of the cost. I had a cabinetmaker make me paneled doors out of MDF and spray painted them cream. They did wonders for my kitchen and made my house sellable at the same time.

5. Make sure the style of your kitchen matches the exterior style of your house. This is important. My house did not sell because the house was very traditional and the kitchen was 80's modern. People who liked the house hated that kitchen. The house did not sell because of it.

6. Check out appliances that have a few dents or are lightly used. You can find good serviceable things if you can't afford new and perfect. Also look for in stock appliances that are on sale. Stores that keep inventory sometimes have sales. Paying cash might give you an edge for bargaining for better prices, too. Sometimes the only barrier between you and a better price is just asking. Have the gall to ask.

7. Consider using lower cost options for counter tops and floors. Butcher block or bamboo is way cheaper than granite and beautiful and functional. Ceramic tile is both functional and attractive and a good value, too. I'm going for solid surface with recycled glass for my next trick.

8. Look for used furniture that can be incorporated into your kitchen. An old buffet might make a great island. An old armoire could be a pantry. Get creative. You might get a really unique, furniture style kitchen for a lot less money.

9. Don't demolish the old until you have the new on site. Your job will go a lot faster. Keep your old kitchen until you have everything you need to make the new one. We installed our whole new kitchen in one weekend (2 days).

10. Meet code. Building codes exist to make buildings safe. You can download this data from your local government.

All our work was worth it. When we put our house up for sale again we advertised it in the local paper one weekend. It sold to the first lookers for the asking price and without a realtor.

We are making plans to put a "new" kitchen into our current home reusing the existing cabinets, replacing worn out appliances and moving the kitchen to another location in the house. It will not cost a lot of money. I'm too cheap to pay the pros and I'm not changing.
